For many guests, the food is the highlight of a houseboat night. Every meal is cooked fresh in the boat kitchen by the crew.

Lunch

Kerala red matta rice, sambar, thoran, avial, pickle, pappadam and the famous karimeen (pearl spot) fry, the signature fish of the backwaters.

Evening tea

Hot tea or coffee with pazham pori, crisp banana fritters, as the boat anchors for sunset.

Dinner

Kerala parotta or chapati with chicken curry or vegetable kurma, rice and a simple dessert.

Breakfast

Appam with vegetable stew, puttu and kadala curry, or idli and dosa with chutney.

Vegetarian, Jain and child-friendly menus are prepared on request, and fresh prawns or crab can be bought from local fishermen along the way.

"Kerala rewards slow travel. Give the backwaters a night and the hills two, and you will leave wanting to come back."
