Munnar sits at about 1,600 metres in the Western Ghats, surrounded by rolling tea estates. Two days is enough to see the highlights.

Day 1

Visit the Tata Tea Museum to see how tea is processed, then drive to Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point and Kundala Lake. End the day at a viewpoint over the estates.

Day 2

Start early at Eravikulam National Park to see the endangered Nilgiri tahr (closed February to April for the calving season). In the afternoon, drive to Top Station for views across to Tamil Nadu.

Tips

Carry a light jacket, as evenings are cool all year, and allow four hours for the drive from Kochi.

"Kerala rewards slow travel. Give the backwaters a night and the hills two, and you will leave wanting to come back."

Munnar fits beautifully into our Kerala packages alongside Thekkady and an Alleppey houseboat night.
